Personally, I have fairly strong views on self publishing & 'vanity presses', but I wondered what the rest of you thought.

What's got me posting about it now is that I was reading a very good post about it on an author's blog.

It is quite long, though, so I'm only linking to it:

So, has anyone considered going down the self publishing route?

Hey guys,

I know i'm new and everything but I'd really like the support ><

I'm about to submit my novel to a really well know agent, you've all talked about him, and i'm very nervous about it! i dont' know if i should or not yet.....can anyone help me decide....i either need to be slaped in the face and be told 'are you an idiot?! your not ready yet' or get pushed over to talking to him like a school girl with a crush!

Please help ><

I recently wrote a post that I thought might be good to point out here. Based on my agent's feedback, I decided to write it--I know rejection is hard, and it helps to talk about it, but writers need to be aware of WHERE they choose to speak about it.

New UK Literary Fiction Publisher The Thorn Press are a new Independent publishers which hope to publish literary fiction which mainstream publishers might not find commercially viable. They warn that they might take several months to reply to submissions ...

Well one of my stand alone novels is called Daciana. It is a story that deprives off of Dracula. It takes place about two years after the 'death' of Dracula and starts on Halloween night. A girl, Daciana, is connected to the strange ...

I LOVE to whine about the query process! It's so frustrating. I've been querying since July '07 for my novel and I've only had a few bites. The most frustrating part is the lack of feedback. "Thanks but no thanks" is not constructive. I realize that agents simply don't have the time for anything else but how can you improve if no one tells you what you're doing wrong? The best thing I've done for my writing so far is to network with other writers. Sites like www.rallystorm.com ...

Our blog features, among other things, a collection of thesarusi just for writers. Currently ...

Ok, thought i'd start this thread because in this day and age of social networking, platform building and power of advertisements, many authors are left behind by depending on very very small PR department attention from publishers.

Often it falls on author to hire a professional to promote their book, recently though with the BOOM of the internet - many authors can help themselves when it comes to promotion.

so come here to share tips/ advice and links about PR
