Okay, I've been reading through the "Least Favorite Books" section, and Twilight conversations seem to have taken off. I figure, it seems big enough to warrant its own thread.

Don't get me wrong -- I LOVED Twilight. Like I said before, New Moon was suckish, Eclipse was pretty okay, and I still say BD was freaking amazing -- but SM DID break her own rules. So that, for me, made it pretty suckish.

The one thing that bothers me about the entire series is this: it's become a ...

I was in Barnes & Nobles on Monday and saw THE HOLLOW, which I recognized because it's by Jessica Verday, the very first "success story" over at Querytracker. What a gorgeous cover!

Anyway, it was the only copy they had in stock (apparently it's common for newer authors to have hardly any shelf space). I bought it and told them they ought to order a case

So far it's a great, atmospheric read and I'm happy to be "supporting" a new author. Has anyone else picked ...

Ok so i was wondering around the internet and was looking for a suggestion generator where i could enter a author i like and get authors who are similar. The only thing i came across was this: http://www.literature-map.com/ where you enter a writers name and a map pops up with the author in the centre and other/similar writers scattered around the name. The closer they are to the authors name the most similar.

So in this thread i thought be cool if we picked an author and listed others ...

There. I said it.

Who's still here? *Looks around*

Okay, so I made this thread to talk strictly about the romance novels of the world. So, while I'd like to keep the discussion of the explicit parts of the book to a minimum so that anyone can browse this thread, I want to stress that books discussed in this thread, should you so decide to go and read them, are explicit in nature.

Okay, because this genre is huge, and I am opening this thread up to talk about ...

One of the best books I've ever read was Anthem by Ayn Rand. It was one of the few books that I was actually happy to read in school. One thing really unique about it was it didn't use the word "I" until the second to last chapter or somewhere around there. It was so thought-provoking and I couldn't put it down. A masterpiece in my mind. What do you all think about it? And if you haven't read(or you have and want this version) it I would suggest finding a copy of the 50th aniversary ...

Clive Barker: Probably the best literature I've ever read, the most original stories. His ability to blend horror with fantasy is second to none. I love his writing style, the way he can make a reader lose themselves in his prose. Totally worth checking into his works if you're unfamiliar with his writing.

I'd recommend (I got the brief synopsis' from Wiki as I tried to write them myself but has been a while since I read them, it would be inaccurate)

a great fantasy series if you enjoy real characters, beautiful writing and a Tolkienish journey coming of age story. Can't recommend this book series enough. It just ticked all the right boxes.

The characters were amazing, very real with faults etc. although the MC is 'the one' and 'all powerful' - she struggles with the morals and wrongness of her powers and certainly isn't viewed as the 'hero'. Even supporting characters are fully developed and potent.

Worldbuilding was great - ...

I just bought the book earlier, and its still plastic-covered. I have to make a subjective report, literary criticism about it for our Literature subject, and it's already due next week, aside from the powerpoint presentation I have to present the next day in front of the entire class.

To anyone who may have read it, can you rate The Scarlet ...
