Hi, just new to this so thought I'd introduce myself. I'm an aspiring storyteller which sounds a bit silly given I've already had a novel published, but some circumstances in life mean I haven't written anything of note for some 8 years now. I have the stories, the desire has waned but a little ember of hope refuses to be extinguished. Been searching a long time for a place to discuss aspects of storytelling and am hopeful this is it.

Hi Shix,

Its great to have you hear and welcome! If you have any questions/queries feel free to pm me or the other mods.

Wow you've already a novel published, congratulations.

I know what you mean about the desire waning, but hopefully we all here might provide motivation for you Smile

Feel free to start new threads or comment on old ones. We have a writer's assistance thread and motivation thread in the novel section.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for the warm welcome. As much as I'm hoping to gain something from joining, I'm also hoping I can help others here in pursuing their dream of being a published writer. Though that should never be the goal though, just a happy by-product of doing something you'd happily do for free. There's so many things to read in this forum, I've just spent an hour browsing now have to go to work!

Thats great, any experience or wisdom is always appreciated and i totally agree with what your saying about writing.

I remember i was in a rut with my writing, and someone gave me this piece of advice

" think of improvement, not publication"

This was helpful for me because i was jumping the gun and stressing over publication without an MS first draft Laughing

its a tad quiet in the boards at the moment, NaNoWriMo is in full swing and a lot of the members (and other mods) are taking part in that mad marathon lol.

Feel free to start a new thread if you feel a topic hasn't been mentioned etc.

Hi, thanks. Somehow when I try to pronounce your name it comes out as squishy alien Smile Nice to meet you. It's nice to find a place to talk about storytelling, it's always been a very solitary thing for me, haven't had the fortune of finding like-minded individuals to discuss writing with, so I'm enjoying my time here.

Shix, i think writing can be quite solitary, especially when you live in a place thats isolated/small town. Its great to hear what like minded individuals are thinking and i've found that talking to people from other countries like NZ, USA broadens my own horizons!

I feel like breaking into song now Very Happy

I've never been called a squishy alien before. Smile

You can call me MM or Mary if it's easier.

I agree, storytelling/writing can be a very solitary business. Until I started finding like-minded people on line I really had no one who really understood this need to tell a story, even if it means setting aside all my other hobbies (and believe me, I like my hobbies) and devoting all my free time to this reawakened passion.

Hey and welcome! Sorry I'm a little late, but I've been eyeball-deep in NaNoWriMo and haven't had much time for anything but writing. I'm Novel, one of the mods here, and I'm glad you could join us! Feel free to PM me if you need anything--even though I'm not always on the forum, I do always check my messages. Smile
