PostSubject: Scams: how to avoid being bitten   Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:18 am

I think this is probably a really important topic for a lot of us here.

The road to being published can be a long, hard one, and there are a lot of companies out there who prey on the unwary hopeful writers.

I've got two links today to start us off, but I thought this deserved a separate topic because it's such a huge issue, and there are bound to be other articles that we can link to when they come up.

Here's two to start off:

Writing scams and how to avoid them
and
a blog post from a bestselling author who got had by scams when she was starting out: Jeaniene Frost

This post reminds me of an 'about the Author' I just read in a YA book. They actually listed that they were previously published through Publish America. Can you believe it? Somewhere out there, a publisher, an editor and writer all thought PA was a good thing to put in your author bio... affraid

Publish america is a vanity press and has a pretty infamous reputation
