This thread is for fantasy, the type which involves another world or realm, where anything is possible e.g. LOTRs

A question or two (or three) to start it off:

What makes fantasy, fantasy?

What do you like/dislike about fantasy?

What makes fantasy such a popular genre?

Ok sorry to ignore the questions Novel but i want to spill my guts about my story and its feasibility or stupidity?

Ok so basically Sight of darkness (my wip) was going to have a blind MC (many of you read the prologue) etc. who will act as oracle and lead the heros to the four sacred secrets (based on irish and japanese mythology) which will save the kingdom. I had envisioned my MC, the prince of the kingdom and a warrier type and some other minor characters. My story has now changed . . .

I've decided to make my MC normal, as in no powers, abilities etc. and have her older sister blind and a seer! Now when i was thinking about the story, i began to think that maybe a 'normal' character would be too boring as a MC and maybe i should do something? so i was wondering would it sound ok for my MC to be assigned to one of the sacred secrets (items), that it wasn't coincidental that she was brought along with her sister?
In my mind, my MC will feel inferior to her sister and then as the story progresses feels more useful and eventually feels like she herself has a destiny beyond being the oracle's sister, when she can use the magic of the scared secret?

Does this sound stupid?

Also in relation to this story, i was thinking that she isn't actually the biological sister at all to the oracle, but actually the secret child of the queen, who was given to her brother to raise for protection? and have this emerge eventually? (which means she's full sister to the prince who will be on this journey?)

too marysue??

sorry for the loooong message lol

Actually, Emily, that doesn't sound Mary-sue-ish to me at all. It think it could work out perfectly as long as you give your MC and her Oracle-sister very distinct personalities. Make them complete [or at least very different] opposites without compromising their loyalty to each other. [Haha, I'm just rambling about my relationship with my sister, secretly.]

But yes, I enjoy your idea, and I like the twist of them not actually being sisters... See, if they love each other that much as sisters, then this revelation is like "whoa! Angst!" moment in your book... Smile

Did any of that make sense? XD
