As all of us know, writing is a life choice not a career and is full of downers, rejections etc. One piece of advice i've gleamed from the realm of the blogosphere is to enjoy every 'good' moment, whether its a positive critique or your book finally being published

So this is a fun fantasy thread about what you will do or want as a gift in celebration of your first published book/first full MS request etc.

OR just what you really want for xmas

santa

Laughing

Ok here is something i would love!

I have a slit fetish for journals and fountain pens, so i would love the following:

Or how about the bed desk? This is perfect for me - imagine staying under your snuggly duvet while working on your novel. a win-win

And basically anything from this shop would be amazing too: http://www.nostalgicimpressions.com/

or how about some funky tshirts and stuff

or how about a bit of jewelry? i saw some lovely charmbraces online using the style! V retro

What about you Smile

That's such a beautiful journal, Emily! @_@ I would have no problem writing in a pretty book like that.

For some reason, as odd as it may sound, I love school supplies. Pretty pens and pencils and notebooks and folders... I have no idea why, but I love shopping for it and using it. xD I love getting colored pens and taking my notes in dark green instead of black, etc. It keeps me entertained for the forty-minute class period. :3 I want a bunch of gel pens for my first published novel. And maybe a pretty journal like Emily showed. >w<

The coffee mug, and any vintage fountain pen

Not that I hate journals, it's just that when I get a book I love, I never write anything in it and keep it safe until it turns yellow Sad

Thank goodness it isn't just me! xD Now I don't feel so crazy. Razz

D: Renu, that's such a waste! D8 *mourns* When I get a book I love, I try to write really neatly, though. Such a pretty journal should have pretty handwriting, right? It's only fair.

How fun! I'd splurge on a new bookcase since the one I have is crammed! Is furniture boring? I have tons of books I need to get off the top-shelf of my closet; pretty soon someone's gonna end up with a mountain of books on their head and a bad concussion.

Oh, I'm the same for notebooks! I love pretty notebooks. I was in TK Maxx the other day (don't know if you get that outside of the UK, but it's a discount shop) and I found a shelf tucked away at the back with loads of photo albums, and some gorgeous notebooks! It took a lot of self control to remind myself that I already have several very pretty notebooks at home, and at the moment I don't have spare money for chocolate, never mind notebooks.

I have a feeling that once I get my first wage packet from this new job, it might be very hard to ignore the pretty notebooks if I'm in Glasgow again!

I want another pretty notebook. @_@ I can't stop looking at them.

okay, I was looking at my bookshelf with complete and utter honesty. Yes, it's by genre. But it's also by size...?? Am I completely neurotic? Is it weird that I'd rather reorganize my bookshelf than bother with putting my clothes closet into some kind of order?

Maybe my guilty pleasure will be a brain scan.

hahaha diana - my clothes hang on . . . the floor!!! while my books are colour coded.

Oh if i was doing it by genre i would completely do it by size as well - looks so much neater.

see, you're not alone in the neuroticness of being a writer Smile

i think its a requirement Laughing

PostSubject: Re: Guilt little pleasures   Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:33 pm

I like the looks of that bed desk, Emily. I have a little laptop desk, which is nice, but it rests on my lap. I'd actually love to get a little office set up with a nice comfy desk and chair and book shelf in a quiet space in my house. Right now I either write on my reclining love chair with my laptop on my lap or I go into my office at work on Saturdays since it's quiet then.

I have my books sorted by genre, too. And within the genre I sort paperbacks and hardbacks separately and I often sort them by size. Color would also be cool though...

A little OCD? Nah.

I've been thinking about going back through all of our books and resorting/reorganizing them. My oldest two kids had a tendency to read books and not put them back where they belonged. Now that they've moved out I'd really like to get them reorganized. But I have 4 very large bookshelves, some of them stacked 2 or 3 deep, and that doesn't count the books in my room, my youngest son's room, my cookbook shelf, or my craft books. I would probably need to devote most of a weekend to do an overhaul and that's time I wouldn't be writing.

It's a dilemma.

Oh Sesquipedalian (or do you prefer M.M?) your house sounds full of books which is what i like! One thing that urks me to no end (when you mentioned your kids) is when my brother comes home the odd weekend and raids the bookcases and takes books i've bought and haven't even read yet without me knowing. Mad

Nah, i think we're all a bit OCD here, and i think its a requirement to be a writer!!

I'm currently using my brothers room sort of as a study, but i imagine when i have my own house, i'd design it like my aunts (her attic is like a dormitory) so i'd convert it to a huge library and maybe have my writing space up there too!!

You can call me either, but MM is probably easier to type. Smile

I have a friend who is also an avid book lover who came to my house for the first time last year (she lives in Chicago). She said, "You know, I always thought you could never have too many books. And then I came to your house."

My husband and I have been thinking about paring down some of our books (we did that a few years ago and gave away a few bags full of paperbacks) but I'm not sure if I can handle parting with any books. I mean, what if I need them later? You just never know when you might need that Calculus textbook or the text on Forensic Anthropology or the 100 or so paperbacks of Dr. Who fan books my husband has carried with him since he was a kid. Really, you just never know. Wink

I think maybe I need a stable for my books. They could have their own little stalls and I could give them nice soft beds of hay... Wait, what are we talking about here?

Oh, and I finally set up a little writing space in my daughter's old bedroom. I didn't have much time to use it this weekend, but it was nice while I was there. I just need to get a more comfortable chair.
