I've heard a little about it from various places, but I wanted to get the correct story. >w<

What exactly is it? From my knowledge, it's when someone else finishes a novel (or anything) under your name and you get full credit. Is that true? It makes no sense, because why would someone do that? o_O Plus, the writing style would change halfway through the novel...

Has anyone else ever heard of this that can give me information? Thanks a lot. ^_^;

I think it's when someone else writes the book for you. Maybe if you're too busy or lazy (like Katie Price, you can choose what word relates to her depending on what you think of her), or other reasons that mean you can't write the book yourself like a disability or something.

It's usually what celebrities do for their 'autobiographies'. They spend a lot of time talking to someone, that someone writes the book, then the celebrity (or whoever) gets the credit. It does make sense - they get paid a lot of money for doing it.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has a ghost writer, I'm sure of it. There's no way one woman can have four or five full series of books going at the ssame time!! She sort of eludes to the issue in the anthology Dead Before Dark (Or After Dark, I can't remember!)

Scott Westerfeld has also done some ghost writing, but he wont say for who! It drives me nuts cause I want to know!!

Most ghostwriters are pretty excellent at mimicking the style of the other author, you'd never know, and most of us don't. Take a look at the long series' of books out there, there's a good chance some of those books were written by ghost writers. I think its a pretty big deal to keep it somewhat secret. Personally I want to know so I can find more authors to read!

I've got two series of books going at the same time. I would say three, but I don't really work on the third that much.

I honestly believed that BD had to be written by somebody else Laughing

I know that sometimes an author will be asked to finish off series if the person died before a] series ended b] the book ended.

I feel sorry for ghost writers, all the work and none of the glory. you think they're well paid?

BTW was barack obama autobio ghost written?

Famous people's autobios are usually ghostwritten.

I'd have major problems with hiring a ghostwriter. I have problems working with others, and I wouldn't be able to handle somebody else working with me/for me in regards to my writing. And it'd be awkward. If I'm ever famous and for some reason feel the need to write an autobiography (although I don't know why I would), I'm just writing it myself.

Well i wonder, i suppose it depends on whether you want an autobiography or a biography?

In my mind i think if i ever was famous ( Laughing ) i would prefer to have a biography written by somebody else

(actually i'd prefer not to have a bio about me at all!!)

I just wonder how much of a % does a ghost writer get from the sales of big hits like 'katie price' or 'Barack O Bama' (God, can't believe i put those two people in the same sentence)

Hahaha, both of them in the same sentence!

I don't know hom buch of a % they get. I wonder if they mention them in the copyright page somewhere?

Heres an article about ghost writers - they have no copyright rights or anything. i think its like hiring a freelance writer - pay them for the job and thats it = no royalties etc.

actually heres an article interviewing a ghost writer

He says he mainly started in it because he read there was such a demand. Interesting way to make a few pennies eh?

If I became a ghostwriter, I would feel really unappreciated. D: After all, doesn't a writer want to say "Yes! I finally finished it all by myself!" because I sure would...

^ Yeah, me too! I wouldn't want to be a ghostwriter if I didn't get the recognition, you know? It's like, I worked hard on this and you get all the credit? Pfft. No way, Jose.

But, then again, I hate working with people, anyway. So...

But what about the opposite end of the scale? We're pretty much in agreement about not wanting to be a ghostwriter, but would you want to employ a ghostwriter? I find the prospect distasteful, myself, but what if you got really, really stuck? Would you do it then?

When I get stuck, I either lay off it for a few days until I magically get inspiration (which happens a lot, surprisingly, from random things in my life) or I show it to my close friends that write and ask what they think. They usually aren't of much help, but occasionally they are. Smile

I would never use a ghost writer. For me, it kind of defeats the point of writing. I write for my own entertainment, and I think it would be nice to share my stories with others, but I write first of all for myself.
