Monthly Writing Competition (Currently CLOSED)

I got your entry, RT, and I sent you an email saying so.

NOTICE:

Just a reminder to everybody: today is the 15th and I need all entries (poetry and short stories) emailed to me at jennabee13@yahoo.com by the twenty-fifth. So far I only have one short story entry and no poems. Not rushing anybody, but just make sure I have everything on time.

Oh, and make sure everything is the way you want it when you submit. There will be no resubmissions allowed. Once it's in my inbox, it's final.

Okay, all. It's the 23rd. I only have two short stories and no poems. Remember, everything's due by 6:00 in the morning (CST) on the 26th. Technically it's due at midnight the night before, but I won't be able to check my email until 6:00 that morning. Because I, you know, sleep. So consider that a gift to you procrastinator types.

GAH! I don't think I'll make the deadline--stupid writer's block combined with closing on a house and so my characters are actually helping me pack instead of telling me things to write--especially this contest story I have!

Well, we can extend the deadline a few days if need be. But we wanted to be able to post the winners on the 31st. So let's say...hm. Everything's due by the 27th? Is that cool with everybody?

For me--not so much, sorry--I think I need to skip out on this contest because we are closing this week on our house and I have no time to write--not to mentio that my computer crashed last night.

Just add two more lines to your poem...then you can call it just that.

Congrats to last month's winner, Bluepolarbear, with her winning short story, The Gift. Blue, if you want to post that in the Sharing section, that would be cool.

Okay, ladies and gents, it's time for the APRIL competition! This month we're doing things a little differently. Instead of having a theme, we're going to have three photographs for you to write about. We're also getting rid of the poetry part of the contest, because I only received one entry last month in that category.

So, the updated guidelines are as follows:

1. Select ONE (and only one) of the pictures below.
2. Write a short story (no more than 3,000 words, please) about the picture that you have selected.
3. Have it in to me at jennabee13@yahoo.com no later than April 25, 2009.

This month's winner will be chosen and posted by April 30, 2009. There will only be one -- I'm not picking one for each photo. We don't get enough people for there to be three categories. So...only one. When you email your entry, be sure to tell me which picture you selected. Just for reference.

YAY! One of my absolute favorite exercises for writing! We had to do this the other way around in my photo illustration class--take a piece of writing and do a picture from it. So this will be fun!

No poems? That's sad, I like writing poems more than short stories! Oh well! I like the picture idea!

Sounds fun! I may consider a picture for this. We'll see. If I commit I tend to go blank until the last moment like last time. Oh, and thanks!

Okay, folks, I don't have ANY entries yet. I'm going ahead and extending the deadline to Tuesday the 28th. I really hope that y'all will send some stuff in, because I don't want to see the contest die! I want to see it grow!

Oh, I'm sorry Novel! I was going to enter this month too, but I've got an art deadline for tomorrow that I'm kind of panicking about at the moment. If I don't go straight to bed on Monday night, I'll try and do something then.

Okay, I had a chat with Emily, and we've decided to close down the contest, at least for this month. For March, I only had two entries, and for April I didn't get any. We're going to try again in June (and I won't be judging that month -- I'll be at camp for the entire judging period) and if it's still dead, we might close it down for good, or at least until more interest is expressed.

Sorry for all that have been participating.

I'm sorry Novel! I think closing it this month is a good plan - so many of us have exams, finals, dissertations, etc.

Yeah. I know I probably wouldn't have been able to enter it this month (or next month), either, because of state testing and finals.
