Depends on the agent, but most of them prefer double-spaced, as do most publishing houses. Easier to read. While writing, I opt for 1.5 spacing, so my scene doesn't look too spread out.

And no, it's definitely NOT silly! I didn't even justify the first draft of my thesis Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Thanks ReNu! I was thinking that most prefer double but when I tried that, it looked too far apart. I think I will try 1.5. Smile

It's just one of those things that you have to check for each agent you submit to. It's not really anything to worry about until you're finished writing.

Exactly. Write and edit in whatever you're comfy with, then do the formatting just before sending it off.

Thanks everyone for the help! I appreciate it! I guess I don't to worry about it quite yet, as I haven't even really thought about submitting it. Very Happy

Aw i'm tooo late v.v

Oh well i'm gonna answer anyway because i like to invade forums ^^ {according to my rank thingy heh}

I keep mine double spaced [which can make a long novel like mine HUGE!] just because i like it for editing when i print and it is easier for when you want to read it. I have two copies of my book, one double one not double so i can see it in both ways and make sure it looks smooth ^^

I have got a big problem that is stopping me from editing Power Of Friendship 1. I can't really do any more until I have this sorted. There's one scene that I have three different ways of doing it and I have no idea which I want to do. The three scenes have been written out and I'm hoping you lot can help me choose. I'm gonna put the three scenes on my thread in the Sharing You Work section if anyone wants to help. The one with the most votes will probabaly end up getting used.

Ok, thank you everyone for voting! I forgot about this until earlier today when I found out people were still voting and I've already chosen the winner a few weeks ago. it was scene three as with two votes to none it was the clear winner. now it's three votes to none (or half if you include Moonlights struggle to choose between two and three at first).

anyway, new problem.

I'm writing Slackers On Tour at the moment and outlined it in day to day so I decided to write it day to day and work it into chapters later. Like what I have to do with The Javaless Quest which is outlined the same way and will be written the same way. But now I'm wondering if I should keep it as dates. It's in 3rd person so diary format is out but maybe to tie it in more format wise with it's mother novel, Tori Susan Evans, and with the theme that it's a tour. Like tour dates. What do you think?

I think tourdates is an excellent idea! Go outside the box! Like MTV when they follow people on tours, they have place, time, data, country and venue!

Oh you know hat you could do which would be original - you have it in third person already, why don;t you insert a narrator as a camera wo/man? following them on tour and documenting their lives?

HELP!

So, I've finally gotten in the mood/groove (however you want to put it) back into working on my ghost story.

My big problem right now is that I need some really sweet or romantic lines or suggestions that I could put into letter format. The letters I'm writing will be from around the Civil War era (1860's-ish). And this is where I've been stuck on my story. Since this story is "roughly" outlined on paper somewhere in my house, I need to work on these letters in order to keep going so I can remember where the story heads.

So, any and all suggestions are welcome! Very Happy Thanks!

Gooble maybe you could give us some information about the context of the letters or whose recieving/sending them?

I remember coming across a website before which had samples of civil war letters (the topic was to do with sex during this period) Not very romantic but hilarious to read. 'scrap my root' seemed to be a popular phrase. Laughing

The letters are mostly chivalrous, than about sex. Basically it's my ghost, Sam, who wrote the letters to the girl he married in secret after her father and brother went to war and left Sam in charge of their plantation. Sam, however, also goes to war after he is married for only a short amount of time to Katrina (the girl). So, he sends letters to her for her reassurance of his love for her. Sadly, there are only a few letters she receives since he dies in an ambush battle on one of the roads about a year later, but Sam doesn't realize at first that he died in that battle. He only realizes this after he returns home to find Katrina had remarried and there was a 3-year old child running around and it runs right through him. It breaks his heart to know he is dead, in the first place, then comes to the conclusion that he would keep watch over Katrina and the home still. He still watches over the women as if they were his own descendants and not Katrina and her 2nd husband's children, grand children, etc.

I hope that helps. Thanks!

I'm in need of some help. I put this problem up on my blog but I thought I'd ask here too. If only to force myself to come on here more than once a month.

anyway, my problem:
I'm really hating how I've plotted the Tori Susan Evans Trilogy at the moment. It seems so over the place but I don't wanna start again. Not when it means scrapping some really good moments from the first book and then spending from now until December getting the plotting for all three books tight as i can ready to start again with the first book. that will mean the first book starting from 2011 instead of 2009 and will mean loosing events that happened in 2009 that I really wanted to keep. Not to mention having to edit all my character profiles. I just don't know what to do and it's doing my head in.

Hi Clare,

Ok i think you need to take a break from this. Put the tori trilogy away for a month and don't think about it. I know this sounds mental but you sound very stressed, and being this stressed won't help with your creativity.

Once you've taken some time away to regroup, you need to look at the first book. Recently there has been alot of posts (bookends blog) about people pitching trilogies or series. Advice is, write the first book as 'standalone with series potential'. Look only at the first book and improve the plotting on that. If you get signed, well then work on the other two stories.

Now in regards to plotting (which i'm weak at - so hopefully others will weigh in), i find it helpful to think of your plot as a three-part play. where each section involves a climax (where MC has to overcome some sort of event) whether its internal or external.

I think this will all become clearer when you take a break!

I agree with Emily, Clare. Take a break for a bit then come back to it. When you go back to it, read it like you didn't write it. Read it like you are your audience. It may help you get back into the groove and you may notice something you overlooked before.
