There is a difference between a job and an internship, you know...a salary is missing in the latter, for starters.

Very awesome ReNu! I hope it works out, but even with this opportunity on your resume you'll fair much better than without it. This is such a great stepping stone for you, congrats!

Thanks a bunch! Hopefully it'll count towards forming a platform when (and if) I get to the query stage.

Not exactly sure this is the right spot for my question, but it seems like the best fit. So here goes:

I've been thinking lately about submiting some of my short stories to magazines, but I'm not quite sure of how to go about the process. My writing teacher had some advice, but I'm still kind of clueless about the whole thing. If anybody has any advice or links, that would be fantastic. Smile

Great idea, novel. Hope it works. Here's my 2c:

I work in a news magazine. Still, most magazines have a link for submission. If they dont have a website, check the masthead of the mag -- this is the part at the beginning, which contains names of the editorial board, how many times the mag is published, subscription enquiries and the like. This part usually has a sentence like: "for submission enquiries, contact..." or something of that sort. DO NOT send before emailing first. If there is no such thing, email the NEWS editor (ok, since it's not a news magazine, email the content editor or the chief copy editor) Say you want to submit a few stories about.... Send a link to your blog, or other published online content. And sit back and wait.

Recently a travel writer enquired to our news editor if she could submit stuff. He asked me to go through her website, review her work and print out relevant parts for him. So that's more or less how it works.

Hope that is of some help.

Mucho, mucho thanks! I had a talk with my writing teacher, and he said pretty much the same. Guess that means research! But I'm up for it, so it should be fun. Smile
