PostSubject: Monthly Writing Competition (Currently CLOSED)   Monthly Writing Competition (Currently CLOSED) EmptyFri Feb 13, 2009 10:17 am

Ok so there was a suggestion for a monthly writing challenge, which i think is a great idea. I'd like to know though what you would like, would you like it to be a competition every month where we submit poetry and short stories on a certain vague theme like 'love' 'death' etc. and have people submit and vote anonymously and have a prize (special banner/rank) ? or just have a challenge with no contest or prize and have people submit and critique each other like a writing exercise?

Let me know!

I'm game. I don't know how many of them I'd actually be able to do (that one on the Draft was a bust. I've been too busy) but it sounds like fun. And I do like the monthly theme idea.

As for the prize, I'm game for making the banner/icon if we want to go that route. I've been itching for a new photoshop (*cough*lunapic*cough*) project.

I'd love to try, but I don't know about every month. It really depends on my work schedule. But I'll definitely give it a shot!

I'll help come up with ideas and topics!! Should it be an open ended submission, like people can write poetry, short stories, etc? Or should we be more direct, poetry one month, short stories the next etc. ??

Personally i don't mind. I suppose we could have two categorys for each theme - one for poems and one for short storys if there was enough interest for both? or like you said one every other month?

Okay, so. We have decided to go ahead with the monthly writing challenge. Here are the rules and guidelines:
1. There will be two categories: poetry and short stories. You can enter one piece in each category, but no more than one in each.
2. The maximum word count for short stories is 3,000 words and poems are not to exceed 35 lines.
3. Judges -- For now the judges are Emily and myself, but this month's winner will join the panel. And then next month's winner will take that place. And so forth. The previous month's winner will not be able to enter the next month's contest.
4. Please send all entries to jennabee13@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Think I'll give the poetry a shot, just to see what my poetry is like. Hope Novel and Emily won't be sick.

Is there a "minimum number of lines" stipulation?

For poetry, max limit is 35, and there's no real minimum.

The 25th. I'll get them that day. You have time. And if you're a couple days late, not a problem. Just let me know if you're going to be late so I don't start judging without your entry.

I love you guys! Major MAJOR writer's block just overcome because I just completed the entry for your challenge! YAY!

Lol, it's probably, like, the longest oneshot I've ever written. About four hundred words under the max XD.

Sorry ^.^ I'm giddy.
