PostSubject: Hi! CJ here...   Hi! CJ here... EmptySat Feb 28, 2009 7:56 am

I'm CJ Raymer, and I blog, write for young adults, and teach pre-k (as well as directing the academy). I know some of you from the "Blue-Boards." I also spend a little time on Cafemom, and of course, a lot of time reading my writer friend's blogs. I'm known for my addiction to shoes, love of pink, and disdain for ongoing perpetual stupidity. (Especially, if I'm the one who's been stupid.)

My blog, "Courting the Muse" is geared toward this writer's journey (the good, the bad, and the beguiling). But, on occasion, I throw in my "life" stuff... just for the heck of it.

I am passionate about my writing, and love the opportunity to "mix and mingle" with other passionate writers. Looking forward to getting to know you guys. flower

Writers write!

XOXO CJ

Thanks guys! I love hearing from fellow writers who follow my blog. It makes it all worth it!

Emily - I couldn't figure out how to post a link to my blog. I'm so NOT techno savvy, but learning. I think I may have fixed it now. We'll see when I post.

I'm excited to be a part of this place and checking out y'alls blogs as well. Happy blogging! CJ flower

Okay, yes, I figured out how to put my blog add on my siggy.

I'll give you a quick "blibbit" of my MS (that is currently awaiting an agent's response).

Abandoned by former friends and relations, and rejected by current high school peers, my novel is about 16 yr.-old Jake, whose family has recently left the Amish church and lifestyle. He finds himself in a place of "shunning" and subsequent great personal loss. Now, having been branded with this shame, Jake struggles to invent a new identity in a new environment, among new peers, who are not so inclined to let him in, even at the request of one of their own. Then, when there is a family tragedy, Jake must make another life-altering decision. Will he continue to forge ahead in his new life that he has fought so hard to become a part of? Or, will he take the "vow" and return once more to his Amish past?

My current WIP is about a young girl struggling with OCD. (More details as I get closer to the end.)

Your MS sounds really interesting. Do you have an excerpt of it posted anywhere? I hope the agent responds to you soon. I'm leaning toward submitting my middle grade MS to an agent as well.

Thanks, SP'sM!

I don't have anything posted anywhere because I have been urged against it. (Something about it becoming self-published at the time it's posted publicly.) I haven't wanted to do anything that may cause an agent to cringe or question. I may have been totally ill-informed. If any of you guys know it to be different, please let me know.

On-line critique groups PM their stuff to others who are going to read it. Maybe that's something we, as a group needing input or desiring to read another writer's work, can do here on occasion.

It will, most likely, be another 4-6 weeks before I hear from this agent. I was painfully close to representation a few years ago. But, at the end of the day, it was a "no go." I've completely revised twice since then.

Good luck to you! Be patient and keep your resolve. It may be a long process, but you just have to stick-to-it, and not allow rejection to wear you down.

I've never heard of the self publishing thing with posting excerpts, but it is probably a good idea not to if seeking representation. If considered self publishing, you as the author would still own all the rights and therefore could still solicite the entire MS. I would advise against posting anything more than a chapter or two...definitely not the entire MS (that's where you'd have problems). It would be interesting to hear from anybody else who has knowledge on this subject.

Good luck with the agent.

You're probably right, and I hope I didn't sound paranoid. Just not sure. I've heard so much on both sides. But, if anyone is interested, I can PM a chapter or two.

BTW, love, love, love Scratchy Paws' blog! Too cute! Makes me want to encourage my "Bogie the Dancing Wonder Dog" to express himself online. (I think he's a frustrated artist looking for an outlet.)
