| Congratulations on the praise. It's clear that means you're on the right track, only you need to find the right agent. | |

| Hehe. Here's a tip: Write everything in detail. Word has a feature which condenses stuff for you. Use it. THEN edit it adding stuff it shouldn't have left out. Voila - your ready-made synopsis. | |

| Easy - use the Word Summary feature on the novel. I think you can even choose the percentage of reduction. That is, if you want the summary to be 50%/more/less of the original. | |

| Now you need to make sure that's as good as it can be, too!
When you say you are writing a summary, is this a synopsis? I can't remember if they are the same thing.

| I think the summary is shorter, just describes the plot and characters, while synopsis is longer. | |

| I see, in which case, it probably needs a lot more polishing and playing with than a synopsis! | |

| Yeah, I'd rather write a synopsis than a summary. There's also the abstract (one page max) and the blurb (1-2 paragraphs). | |

D: That's weird. I tried using it and it just highlighted the exact first half of my summary. ><;

D: That's weird. I tried using it and it just highlighted the exact first half of my summary. ><; There are four choices of what to retain and what to leave. I've forgotten which one I pick all the time, but mostly, I get only the important stuff highlighted. Careful though - if there are examples/names/figures, it ALWAYS picks them.

| In my experience, what my editor wants from a synopsis is more than just a summary of the plot - though that is a big part of it, admittedly. It also has to give an idea of character and character development, and of the underlying themes of the novel.
