PostSubject: Hi from Scotland   Hi from Scotland EmptySat Jun 27, 2009 2:14 pm

Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I am an aspiring novelist of paranormal mysteries and procrastinator par excellence so I'm hoping there's lots of nattering going on here to give me plenty of time-wasting opportunities.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Wow! Thanks very much for all your warm welcomes. I feel right at home already.

daeonica, I'm in North Berwick which is east of Edinburgh on the coast. I see you are a student - where are you and what are you studying?

About My Novel:
I started sending it out to agents last September, since when I've had some interest and suggestions for revision which I'm currently working on at the moment. The new version is going to be very different from the first, but better I'm hoping!
It's about a bloke working in a bookshop who finds a mysterious book and his life starts to unravel (can't say much more at this point as it keeps changing, but if you're interested there is a blurb on my website at http://flyingtart.webs.com/thebookseller.htm

I've got a few other projects at various stages on my hard drive. (I've long since stopped calling anything finished because I've come to realise there is no such thing!)

Aw your book sounds cool, sounds very neil gaimon (i hope thats a compliment Wink )

and Edinburgh is one of the nicest cities i've ever visited!!

I love your signature quote!

Can i ask what your book genre is? (if it has one) - cause i remember discussing with other writers in UK (i'm irish but we query the UK) about the limits of querying in uk for fantasy/paranormal/scifi cause there are so many limited number of agents. did you find that?

Granted, I'm not even close to the query stage myself Laughing

I'd forgotten it said that. Maybe I'll change it. I've just finished high school, over on the West Coast. I'm taking a year off to go traveling and work a ski season in France first, but next year I'm going to be starting at Edinburgh Uni. I'll be studying Ancient & Medieval History. It's weird that it's over a year away, and I'm already so excited about it.

Daeonica - your study sounds fun ^^

Poptart - your book sounds very interesting ^^ i think we'd all like to read it someday so get it published XD

What you said is true, nothing is ever finished, even when it's published it can always be edited!

We strive for perfection, but perfection doesn't exist, true?

When I wrote it I thought it was a supernatural mystery, but I now think it probably comes under the umbrella of urban fantasy. I find genre a very tricky issue, to tell you the truth. It's basically a ghost story, plain and simple.
Thanks for comparing it to Neil Gaiman but I doubt I could live up to his standard!
When I sent it out I looked for agents who handled mystery or general fiction. I did get a LOT of rejections, but I do think if you have a good original story idea someone will sit up and take notice. But here is a link I found a while ago with sci-fi/fantasy agents to try:
