| Nice Rosy. I really like the last one you put. "A French Knot". It can really give the person two ideas to pick up the book. One, Knot as in a romantic knot and two, like you said, knotty complications! | |

| I like the cover a lot, and how the reflection of the words is under the title, etc. Though some parts (the top left corner) it's a bit hard to read because of whatever the background color is (the shadowy part?). I don't think anyone will notice though. >w< Better than I anything I could do by a long shot. xD | |

| So I get this email today from David Wolverton who is the author of the Runelords series. He also does this email blog (if you want your daily kick in the pants, PM me and I'll let you know how to get set up with it). Anywho, I get this email that he needs all the people who receive his email blog to help him pick a new title within 13 hours. The deadline is to have a title by 7 am tomorrow morning. I believe he is Mountain Standard Time in the US. I guess his title, "Berserker Lord" cannot be used because some other person "copyrighted" the word, "Berserker" so no one can use it. Strange, but hey, it would be cool to enter a contest to help out an author who teaches me so much about writing through an email. These are the titles I've thought up from his synopsis and I think they are catchy. I am going to send them all because I am never going to use them for anything. Gemini Rampage Twined Rampager Chimera Rampage Peaceful Rampager (he wants to use Rampage somewhere in the title and his titles are two words long, so I thought I'd stick with what the author would like to see on his cover.) Here's the synopsis if anyone is interested in just hearing about the book: - Quote :
- Sir Borenson, one- time bodyguard to Gaborn Val Orden, has long since retired. But when Gaborn's son uses his powers to bind together two world--the world of the runelords and the world of the wyrmlings, Borenson suddenly finds that he is one of those few people who has a "shadow self," who is living on both world simultaneously, and he is bound to his other half. His other half is named "Aaath Ulber," which is more of a title than a name. It means "Great Berserker," or "Lord of Berserkers." When the two men are bound into one body, Sir Borenson suddenly realizes just how much danger his world has been thrust into. He knows that the wyrmlings will destroy the world--unless he stops them.
Meanwhile, the wyrmlings recognize that Borenson/Aaath Ulber poses a tremendous threat. Their Chaos Oracles foretell of the coming of a hero who can bring down their empire.
So Borenson goes to war, but discovers that the greatest battle he must face lies within himself, for as a berserker, he goes into a deep red fog in battle, and in that fog he does horrible things. I thought this was cool, so hey, it'd be cool to help out and I hope you finally found a title for your story Rosy! I can't remember if you've figured one out yet or not. But good luck on it if you are still looking.

| Thanks Emily! Anyway, got the results back this morning on who one the contest. Sadly I wasn't in the top 70. He said it took him over 7 hours to read all the entries. But anyway, the final title for his book is "Chaosbound" because of it's duality, etc. Well, since I've been away from my email for so long I didn't see that the author I submitted these title suggestions too personally emailed me back. This is what I got...which I saved because I'm thrilled he really liked one at all. - Quote :
- Thanks for the help. You hae a couple of good ideas here. Chimera Rampage is especially interesting. I'll let you know how they fare tomorrow!
That made me feel, I dunno...a bit special. It actually made me feel like what I'm trying to pursue is the right road to be taking for myself. Okay, I'm done flaunting and bragging now but that was kind of big for me to get even that kind of response. Okay, has anyone come up with new titles for their stuff? Anyone got their own working system on how they like to title their stories? Do you like having a pattern such as 3 word/2 word/1 word titles? Is there a specific thing or scene that your title pertains to at all usually? Does it keep mystery and intrigue with the impending reader to keep them guessing at where the title may have come from?

| I need help!! (i'm going to start a help thread for these type of things) but this relates to this thread.
I need a title for a short story i'm working on. I call it the strange lil story.
Basically the story is of a dying woman who begins to remember her past lives. At the moment just before her body dies (in each life) she remembers her lover, which is 'death'. They've been punished so that they only ever have these few moments at the end of their lives with each other before she begins a new life and forgets.
I only reveal death at the end of the story so i don't want a very obvious title.
i was thinking "eternally yours"??
Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated

| I don't have a cover idea yet, but I've been mulling over a title:
The Dismantling of Eòin mac Áed
On the one hand, I really like it, but I'm afraid it's too long. Also, the book is part of a trilogy so I'm not sure how that name would tie into the titles of the other books. Would it seem weird to have a long title like that for the first book, then something shorter for the next two? Seems like they should have some commonality.
Thoughts? | |

| This thread seems to have been dormant for some time, but if anyone's interested, I've just had the cover visual for my next novel, and I love it! I've always had chick litty-looking cartoon covers before, but this time they've gone for a photograph - and a really nice mellow feel. http://rosythornton.com/works/the_tapestry_of_love.phpWhat d'y'all think? | Ok so my current WIP is 'Dark Shines' (a muse song but it suits too) - I'll probably play around with darkness and light etc. but here are some covers Let me know what yeh think Cover 1 Cover 2 Cover 3 Cover 4 Permission Pending Cover 4 is my favourite (although i accidently picked wrong shade of purple for my name - may fix that) EDIT: Looked at the source pic of cover 4 and realised it was restricted so asking permission of the photographer (it's a selfportrait too) | |

| I'm torn between aspects of the first one, the third one and the fourth one. I like the font on the first one--but I think it would look better "un"bolded. I like the picture on the 3rd one and on the 4th one. Actually I think I like the 4th picture better. | |

| I like the fourth one best too. . The others are really dramatic and beautifully composed, but are a bit too chilling for my taste. The fourth has the best combination of atmosphere and approachability. | |
